‘Juggernaut’ was supposed to be my ‘word’ for 2016. I was going to be unstoppable, focused, brave, productive, successful….and happy. I was ready to be full of energy and zest for life that was going to translate through to my work and my parenting.
I don’t want to waste both our time with my tales of woe, but in reality, 2016 has been pretty bloody awful primarily due to me being constantly ill all year. I have been riding a wave of back-to-back colds/infections and sinusitis since February. I can count the number of ‘healthy days’ on 2 hands. By ‘healthy days’ I mean where you freely share a takeaway coffee with your husband or blow on your baby’s food to cool it down. My body has basically shut down and I am desperately trying to heal and reboot my immunity a little bit each day with self-care, good food and rest.
Adelaide’s icy cold and rainy winter hasn’t helped. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. In a few week’s time I’ll be travelling to sunny Queensland with the family on holiday…huzzah!! The trip is not meant to be one of those ‘epic’ holidays, but a few days to relax and unwind and not feel like I need to ‘push through’ my current state of feeling rubbish.
Unsurprisingly, I’ve already started a few lists of what we need to take. Somewhere between making a list and actually putting stuff in the suitcase is where I fall over. I am a terrible packer because I have no idea how to pack for warm weather. 10+ years ago my husband Marc and I went to Palm Cove one October and I packed a bag full of jeans, trackies and jumpers….goodness knows why! It may have been 16 degrees in Adelaide but it was 30+ degrees up north. It proved to be an expensive mistake as I had no choice but to spend umpteen monies on shorts, t-shirts and skirts at the local Westfield.
So in today’s post, I’m asking for your help. I would love for you to share with me any insights into packing for a holiday somewhere warm. I know this should be a piece of cake, but I know I will genuinely struggle to take the right stuff. Are there some golden rules I’m missing out on??
Conversely, it will be the first interstate trip with both our girls – 4 and 18 months; do you have any packing suggestions for travelling with small kids, tips for the plane ride?? Please leave me a comment below or head to the FB page.
Thanks in advance. I need all the help I can get 🙂
