Thanks for checking in so soon for my ‘post-confession’ plan reveal.
What did you think of my confession?? We’re you surprised?? We’re you nodding along as you were reading it??
Right away I had people message me totally puzzled saying “but you’re so organised already??”.
Maybe. But my current vintage of organisation is the ‘flying by the seat of my pants’ kind, whereas I want more of the ‘set and forget’.
I want to review all the important stuff, take action and then forget about it (for a while). I have enough trouble sleeping without worrying about my unexecuted will or my stagnant superannuation balance.
Anyhoo, as per my last post, I have a plan!
Over the next 12 months I’m going to systematically review the major areas of my life, get out of my mental and physical slump and know that I’ve got a plan as I inch toward 40. I’m calling the series ‘Bringing Up Brooke’. It will be in the same vein as Gretchen Rubin’s ‘Happiness Project’ where she spent 12 months focusing on different facets of her life to maximise happiness. I’ll undertake a similar process but with less rigidity and tackle multiple topics each quarter under 1 of 4 major themes.
I’ll share the ‘bouquets and brickbats’ with you along the way and I encourage you to play along at home if any topic strikes a nerve. If you get that ick feeling in your gut if you suddenly remember you haven’t been to the dentist in 10 years or that you’re still living pay check to pay check, it’s a good sign that you need to take action too.
I don’t protest to be a guru in any of the subjects I review. While I might be ahead of the curve in some areas, I’m probably still wearing training wheels for others.
I promise to be honest and relatable and my aim in sharing this ‘journey’* is so I can help others. Others just like me (and you) to stop feeling panicked and overwhelmed and to find that state of ‘slowness’ (that I am so desperately craving).
My plan is to tackle 4 major areas:
- ‘The Monies’
- Health and wellbeing
- ‘Nice to haves’ and Hygge**
First cab off the rank is all the financial stuff. I already know this topic is going to be a monster. However, I know I want financial freedom for my family long term. If I don’t start making small changes now we’ll never get there. I’ll post again in coming days with just some of the questions, ideas and actions I plan to tackle in July, August and September.
Thoughts?? If you think I’m barking mad, let me know in the comments below 😉 Conversely, if you think my plan is totally genius…..I’d love to know that too 😊
*I HATE this word by the way. Note to self: come up with something better.
**I am frigging IN LOVE with the idea of Hygge (pronounced ‘hue-guh’). I’m still searching for a kickass definition, but it’s a Danish concept that basically depicts the feeling of comfort and coziness in life. I’ve been obsessed with it of late and am desperately waiting for my copy of ‘The Little Book of Hygge‘ by Meik Wiking (a guru on the subject) to arrive in the mail.
